Fire Setting Intervention

The Juvenile FireSetter Intervention Program aims to educate and support young individuals who exhibit fire-setting behaviors, ensuring they understand the dangers associated with fire and providing them with appropriate interventions to prevent future incidents.

Partners

Winchendon Fire Department: Provides leadership and coordination of the program.
District 8 Fire Investigation Team: Assists in fire incident analysis and contributes expertise in fire behavior and investigation.
No Fires Organization: Offers resources, educational materials, and support for fire prevention and safety.

Key Components

  1. Assessment: Each participant undergoes a thorough assessment to understand their motivations and circumstances related to fire-setting behaviors.
  2. Education: Participants receive targeted education about fire safety, the consequences of fire-setting behaviors, and alternative ways to channel their interests and emotions.
  3. Counseling and Support: Individual and group counseling sessions are provided to address underlying issues such as trauma, curiosity, or emotional distress that may contribute to fire-setting behaviors.
  4. Family Involvement: Families of participants are involved in the intervention process to provide support and reinforce learning at home.
  5. Community Engagement: Collaborates with schools, community centers, and other local organizations to raise awareness about fire safety and prevention.
  6. Monitoring and Follow-up: Continued monitoring and follow-up with participants to assess progress and address any recurring issues.

Outcome Measures

  • Reduction in incidents of fire-setting behaviors among participants.
  • Increased awareness of fire safety and prevention in the community.
  • Enhanced collaboration among stakeholders in fire prevention and intervention efforts.
